To register for an Overnight, Stay-at-Home, or Express session, a youth must be at least 14 years old on or before December 31 of the year they attend. A youth cannot be more than 18 years old on the first day of their session.
There are two EFY age groups: 14–15 and 16–18. To be roommates, participants must sign up during registration in the same age group. EFY policy allows 15-year-old youth turning 16 during the current calendar year (January–December) to register in either the 14–15 or the 16–18 groups.

It is not possible to register for EFY as a family. Each individual sibling must register under his/her own account. This year, all participants will need to create a new account (unless you have an existing account with BYU Independent Study). Registration for EFY programs must be completed online.
Nothing, as far as the EFY program goes. Sessions may vary in size according to available facilities.
We wish all youth could have their preferred EFY session, but each session has a limited number of spaces. If the session you would like to attend is full, keep checking the available sessions page for openings.
If you see an available space on the available sessions page, but that space is gone once you log in, that space has most likely been taken by someone who logged in just before you. Please be patient and continue to watch for additional openings.
Occasionally, campuses may provide additional beds after registration opens. Those spots are posted as they become available. The EFY office can give you some guidance on these possibilities.
If you are idle on the registration page for 30 minutes, you will automatically be timed out and will have to wait in the online queue again to log back in. Also, if you are logged into the same account in more than one window or tab and any of the windows or tabs are left idle for 30 minutes, you will be timed out of all the sessions you are logged into (even if you are actively registering someone in one of the windows). If the spot for which you were attempting to register is gone when you log in again, you will have to wait and see if another spot opens.
If you sign up for a date to register early, you will receive an email in mid-January indicating your early registration date and time and giving you an invitation code. This invitation code allows you to invite one friend (who also signed up to participate in early registration) to register on your same early registration date. Using the invitation code will increase the possibility of you and your sibling, preferred roommate, or friend getting into the same session.
Inviting a friend to register on your same early registration date WILL NOT link you as roommates.
If you give your invitation code to a friend and register on an earlier date that the one you were assigned, you are no longer able to invite a friend of your choice to register on your eligibility date. YOU CAN EITHER CHOOSE TO GIVE YOUR INVITATION CODE TO A FRIEND WHO INVITES YOU TO REGISTER ON THEIR EARLIER DATE, OR YOU CAN REGISTER ON YOUR ASSIGNED DATE AND INVITE A FRIEND TO REGISTER WITH YOU, BUT NOT BOTH.
When you finish registering you will receive an email with the confirmation page attached, or you can print a copy of the confirmation page. You can also log back into your account at any time and print a copy.
You can check your registration information by carefully reviewing the registration confirmation page sent to your email or by logging into your account and under "Account Information" select "View Current Registrations."
You will receive a pre-session email one–two weeks before the session begins. If you think you are enrolled in a session and do not get an email, please call the EFY office. If you receive an email for a session you thought you dropped or transferred from, call the EFY office immediately at 801-422-3817, ext. 0. Fees are charged if changes are requested when a deadline is past.
Registration for each Overnight and Stay-at-Home session closes at 1:00 p.m. mountain time on Monday, two weeks before the session begins. This same deadline applies to withdrawals/refunds, transfers, roommate requests, or any other changes to your registration.
If space is available at a session, youth wanting to walk on will be permitted to register online using their personal mobile device or laptop. Cash or check payments can no longer be accepted on site. Medical information and a parental agreement release must be completed by the parent/legal guardian as part of the online registration process before a youth can be enrolled and allowed to attend EFY.
NOTE: As we cannot guarantee a space at EFY for hopeful walk-on participants, please do NOT send your youth to register for an EFY session as a walk-on if he or she cannot easily get back home. There is a high possibility that he or she will NOT get into the session because space is usually limited. You can call the EFY office to learn about the possibility of walking on for your desired session.
Two youth of the same gender and age group who are registered in the same OVERNIGHT session may request to be linked as roommates.
Two youth of the same gender and age group who are registered in the same STAY-AT-HOME session may request to be linked as friends.
Every effort is made in honoring roommate and friend requests; however, they are not guaranteed.
If you have a medical reason for which you would like to request a special exception of three in a counselor group, please call the EFY office at 801-422-3817, ext. 0.
Choose a roommate when you register—during early registration or anytime during open registration until the session is full or closes, which is two weeks before your session starts.

To add, delete, or change your roommate preference, log into your account, and under “Edit Enrollment” click “Housing.” Enter the registration confirmation number of your preferred roommate. All roommate information needs to be finalized before registration closes at 1:00 p.m. on the Monday, two weeks before the session begins.
To be roommates, participants must be in the same age group and be the same gender. If a friend is in another age group, you may request approval for the older friend to move down to the younger group. New to EFY policy 2015, 15-year-old youth turning 16 during the current calendar year (January–December) may register in either the 14–15 or the 16–18 group. Age group exceptions must be approved by the Session Administrator in the EFY Office.
If you withdraw from an EFY session by 1:00 p.m. mountain time on the Monday two weeks before your session begins, you may receive a refund, minus a nonrefundable $20 withdrawal fee. After that time, you will not be able to withdraw or receive a refund as housing and all other arrangements have been finalized. Payments have been made to institutions where EFY sessions are held and they will not issue refunds when a participant withdraws.
If the credit card you used for payment when you registered is no longer active, the refund will still be automatically credited to that card’s account. You will need to contact your bank card provider to transfer this credit to an active account. We cannot refund payment to a credit card other than the one charged when you registered. If you have concerns, call the EFY office at 801-422-3817, ext. 0.
If you withdraw from a session, be sure to log back into the participant’s account to confirm that it shows "withdrawn." You should receive a refund in one to three weeks. If you do not receive the refund within three weeks, please call the EFY office at 801-422-3817, ext. 0. No refund requests will be considered after October 31 of a session year.
No refund will be given when a participant is sent home for violating EFY standards and rules.
You may transfer from one session to another anytime during early or open registration until the session is full or closed (1:00 p.m. mountain time on the Monday two weeks before the session begins). If space is not available in the session you want, keep checking back to see if a space opens up.
To transfer from a Stay-At-Home session to an Overnight session, you must withdraw from your Stay-At-Home session and register for the Overnight session. Your funds will remain in your account if you re-register the same day, and you will pay the balance of the additional Overnight session cost. To get a refund of the $20 withdrawal fee, call the EFY office manager, 801-422-3817, ext. 0.
To transfer to another session, log into your account and follow these steps:
You should receive a confirmation that your transfer has gone through. Confirmation of your transfer will also be sent to the email address on file. If you do not receive a confirmation email or do not see a confirmation page, please call the EFY office, 801-422-3817, ext. 0.
PLEASE NOTE: If you select “Withdraw” instead of “Transfer,” you will be removed from the session and refunded your money, minus a $20 withdraw fee. This fee is nonrefundable, even if you withdraw by accident, so be sure to choose the transfer option. If you withdraw from a popular session, you may not be able to get your spot back.
It is your responsibility to confirm that your registration is complete and accurate.
EFY does not allow one participant to take the place of another. University policy does not allow us to transfer funds from one youth’s account to another. Please follow our withdrawal procedure if you need to withdraw. If you have an extenuating circumstance, please call and speak with the EFY office manager at 801-422-3817, ext. 0.
If you learn after the two-week deadline that you are unable to attend, you can get a refund if you find a SUBSTITUTION in the same age group and gender. REGISTRATION FOR THE SUBSTITUTE MUST BE HANDLED BY THE EFY OFFICE MANAGER.
Yes. Withdrawals and transfers must be completed by 1:00 p.m. mountain time on the Monday two weeks before the session begins. Sessions where the deadline falls on a holiday when our office is closed, May 29 and July 24, the deadline will be May 30 and July 25 instead. Please make note of your deadline date as we will not accept any new withdrawals or transfers to or from a session after the deadline. We cannot make exceptions for those who misunderstand the time and date for the deadline (or who have problems after office hours on the day of the deadline).
You may log in and withdraw from your session for a nonrefundable $20 processing fee. The final deadline for withdrawals is 1:00 p.m. mountain time on the Monday two weeks before your session begins. After that time, you will not be able to withdraw, transfer, or receive a refund. Housing and all other arrangements are final at that time.
To withdraw from a session:
Print your confirmation page or write down the confirmation number for your records. A confirmation email will also be sent to the email address on file. If you do not receive a confirmation email or see the confirmation page, or if you have questions, please call the EFY office at 801-422-3817, ext. 0.
Be sure your account shows “withdrawn” before you anticipate a refund. No refund requests will be considered after October 31 of a session year.
Once you withdraw from your session, you will be automatically refunded the cost of the session, minus a nonrefundable $20 fee. This fee will not be refunded even if you withdraw by accident or re-enroll in another session, so be sure you want to withdraw before doing so.
Refunds are processed in one to three weeks. If you do not receive your refund within three weeks, please check the status by calling the EFY office at 801-422-3817, ext. 0.
If you have any trouble with the withdrawal process, call the EFY office or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will complete the withdrawal for you. If you choose this option, please provide the following:
If you make a written withdrawal request but fail to provide all the above information, we will be unable to withdraw the participant from his or her session. Please see our refund policy.
To be finalized, all emailed withdrawal requests must be time-stamped before the deadline (1:00 p.m. mountain time of the Monday two weeks before the session begins). A confirmation email will be sent to the email address on file. If you do not receive a confirmation email, the process was not completed. Contact the EFY office at 801-422-3817, ext. 0.
